“The App-ter Project”
a guest iPhoneography post by David Hayes
At some point last month, while discussing my use of iphone apps with my blogging buddy, Seth Apter, a project idea was born. Take one image and use 40 different apps…one at a time. Simple as that.
Over the last couple of weeks I did just that and have come up with 40 different perspectives on the same flower. I’ve started posting these images and the apps under the title “The App-ter Project” on my blog, Flickr stream, and as a Facebook gallery.
I would like to share with you this time the first four versions as well as the “recipes” I used to create them. Here is my “Source” image:
This was taken in a “studio setting” using my iPhone 5 native camera app. I’ve not done any post-production editing on this so you are seeing the raw image!
My first version was created using that incredible app, iColorama. Here are the filters I used, in order: VGogh 1; Sharpen 1/6; Tiles 3/5; and Border 3/7.
The second version is a product of Etchings. I used its Citizen Fx filter, line weight of thin, and the #3 exposure setting.
Version #3 is one of my favorites. I did this one in Popsicolor. Its recipe: café/classic for the top setting; coffee/cotton candy for the bottom setting; ink; and minimal.
Number 4 uses Repix, which is a fairly new app on the market. This is an app that allows you to “paint” on the different filters in its toolbox. I used Daubs, Drips, Freshen, and Spray.
You probably noticed that I didn’t include screen shots of the “steps along the way” this time, rather wanting to just focus on the final images. If you’d like some help figuring out how the use the “recipes”, just let me know and I’ll be happy to provide the details.
I’ll be posting new versions on a bi-weekly bases, Tuesdays and Thursdays on these sites:
My blog, Clearer Reflections: www.clearerreflections.com

My Facebook gallery: https://www.facebook.com/theclearerreflections
Do check these out…and let me know what your think!
