What’s Your Doodle? Self Discovery Series

The process to self-discovery takes a lot of courage, not only to face new adventures but to meditate on the paths you’ve already taken. So, pick one or two simple images that speak to the heart of you and all that you’ve accomplished so far. Then draw a black and white pattern of them on your paper and doodle around them, filling in the white space with doodles, tangles or even other symbols that represent who you are. Use the In the Key of Doodle demonstration as a reference from Zen Doodle Oodles of Doodles.

My inspiration for creating this design was my music-loving, guitar-playing sister. I thought of my work space as an album cover, drawing doodle patterns as well as adding elements personalized to my sister, such as the butterfly.

Curiosity and the courage to remain open to possibility can lead to happy discoveries.

Step One: Create in pencil a basic outline of a guitar. Once drawn, go over the line with a fine-point black marker.

Step Two: Draw inside one of the shapes with an extra-fine point pen. I started in the corner of the neck, drawing curved lines that build on one another.

Step Three: Draw spirals in varying sizes until the space is filled. Continue filling the page with your favorite patterns.
