You know how it feels when a dream comes true? Something you’ve thought about but couldn’t quite envision happening, mostly because, you know, logistics get in the way? Forever, I’ve thought how much fun it would be to have a Real Live Voodoo Lounge, where creative people could come by and hang out, bringing their handwork or journals or whatever, sitting and talking about creativity and why they do what they do. Talking, of course, to me, and on camera for everyone who can’t drop in but *can* join us virtually.
Of course, living in Midland, Texas, this isn’t something that’s easy to make happen. Not a whole lot of people are going to show up at my house to hang out in The Voodoo Lounge, never mind that it’s a lovely place to hang out. (The Lounge, not Midland, alas). I told Sallianne and Ellen, the geniuses behind the Art is You retreats, and they said, “Let’s do it!” So in April, in Nashville, they gave me a real live Voodoo Lounge–a huge suite with a couple of couches and comfy chairs and plenty of space to hang out and talk and work on projects and–and!–do video interviews. So this week I’m going to share those with you, and here’s the first one, with the lovely Pam Carriker, who talks about, among other things, teaching people that they can, indeed, draw faces.
Check back on Wednesday to meet My New Best Friend, Sophie. Oh, yeah: and Sophie’s Driver, Kecia, who’s also quite fabulous but kind of gets overshadowed by the cuteness that is Sophie~~
