I love Chris–he’s more fun to talk to than just about anybody on the planet. We did a remarkable job in this podcast: usually we crack each other up so much that it would be difficult for anyone else to understand us; we kept the chortling to a bare minimum and acted like Serious Adults here.
Chris’s story of how he discovered his path is amazing, and I think it’s also important for young artists to hear how he made his way to what he’s doing today from his childhood, which he describes as “being a gay black boy in Southern Indiana.” His mom expected him to study hard and be a doctor or a lawyer, but he knew that wasn’t what he wanted to do with his life. He moved to Boston, had a lot of really interesting jobs (zoo keeper, fashion model), and found not only his path in life and in art but also his people: the people who love what he does and collect what he creates.
