What can I say? I am still very much in love with the ColorSchemer Touch app offered by the colorful folks at COLOURlovers. What I’m excited to tell you is that this app is now free! If you follow along here on CreateMixedMedia, you may have already seen me mention this app because I’ve used it to create a color palette from a haiku poem, as well as from a couple of painted canvas/stitched projects.
Because I needed little excuse to create some new palettes to share for this post, I made one from the colors on my laptop case (these colors make me happy, so I titled the palette Happiness).

I also had fun creating palettes from a couple of great foodie moments: goodies at my favorite local coffee shop and breakfast from a fun trip to Tucson where I got to eat huevos rancheros from a restaurant that was the site of a Bobby Flay Throwdown.
Isn’t this a cool alternative way to preserve a memory or give second life to something you made that you absolutely love? You have the option of creating color palettes from scratch or—and this is where the fun comes from for me—you can pull colors from a pic you have on your phone. Once you have used the picker tool to pull the colors from the photo you want to include (you can pull up to five), then you can leave them as is, or, you can go in and adjust them further to suit you vision. You can also adjust the width that’s visible of each color to further refine how the overall palette feels. When you are happy with the palette, you give it a name, save it and it’s automatically loaded to your profile on COLOURlovers.com. Having your palettes with you on your phone is handy when you want to pick out acrylic paint for your next painted canvas project. 🙂 If you have an iPhone, I hope you’ll give this a try. It’s fun and I think the applications for using this are huge in number.
