Travertine tiles may be found in building supply stores. Travertine is a beautiful natural stone that is cut into different sizes to be used primarily in tile applications. I frequently use the back side of the tile because it has a more interesting texture with more nooks. I have painted on travertine with alcohol inks, acrylic paints, polymer mediums, glass beads and mica powders.
Materials
- alcohol ink
- rubbing alcohol
- travertine tile
- felt tool for alcohol inks
- polymer medium
- paintbrush
- glitter or glass beads
- eye dropper
1. Apply alcohol ink directly onto the tile and then drop alcohol onto the surface to disperse the ink.
2.Put drops of alcohol ink onto a felt tool and dab onto the surface of the tile. Heat set the ink with a heat gun.
3. Pour polymer medium onto the tile and sprinkle glitter or glass beads onto the surface.
4. Work a few beads into the stone openings. Let dry.
